Honolulu: Exploring the Neighborhood

Hilton Hawaiian Village

The closest beach to our condo is the one accessed through the Hilton, just a block down the street.  The Hilton is immense: it has its own 'village', whose restaurants, bars, and retails shops occupy the majority of the ground floors of the three towers that comprise the hotel.  The landscape is lush and pristine with several pools at the edge of the beach.  The whole setup reminds me of some of the more luxurious hotels and resorts we toured in southern Thailand.  The complex is so large it is quite easy to slip onto the beach undetected.

I love the juxtaposition of the frosted christmas tree open to the pool and beach beyond.

Ala Moana Park

Across the street and slightly to the west is Ala Moana Park, which is a public park, marina, and beach.  Not many waves to speak of, but beautiful waterfront property with bustling Honolulu beyond.

The tip of Ala Moana Park, looking south.

The view from the park to the east tip of the island.  That is Diamond Head in the distance.
